The department of discrete analysis

The department of discrete analysis was created in 1989 on the base of a new faculty of information and computer science. It chose students’ acquaintance with a scientific base of classic mathematic disciplines as its educational priority, since it became clear then that it was reasonable to create a separate department for teaching basic mathematical disciplines for students of a newborn ICS faculty.

From the first days of its existence, the department combined a serious attitude to teaching fundamental mathematical courses with research in various modern areas – from complicated discrete tasks to neurocomputers and economic forecasting. The department prepared a doctoral thesis and about ten candidate theses.

The department participates in the realization of a multi-level system of training specialists at the faculty of information and computer science. It graduates students specializing in Applied Mathematics and Information Science. Almost half of the students who follow this course undergo specialized training at the department of discrete analysis.

The department of discrete analysis provides teaching dozens of basic and special courses for undergraduate and graduate students. Most courses are based on original methodic materials elaborated and published by the professors of the department.
